Funny story about how I almost got arrested.

It is funny to me now when I remember the events of that day, but it was not funny then I was terrified and exhausted. How did I get myself into that position? I was just doing my job, in the wrong way, at the wrong place and I didn’t think it was wrong until I had to face the consequences.

I worked as a part-time marketer for an eye clinic, my job was to distribute handbills to people, informing them of how important it was to do an eye check to avoid fatal eye problems in the future. On this particular marketing day, I had received numerous unyielding responses from people in the location where I went to market, and the weather wasn’t encouraging, it had rained so heavily but I wouldn’t relent, it was my stubbornness manifesting when it was not needed, I remember repeating to myself ‘’just one positive response.’’

When it stopped raining, I took my marketing schemes to the city mall, On reaching the mall I began distributing the flyers and immediately, I was approached by the security man who told me that It was prohibited for businesses outside the mall to market in the mall, His warning was well received but not adhered to, as I kept sharing the flyers but discreetly. After a short while, a man drove from the parking lot in a milk-coloured Lexus car to the entrance of the mall where I stood, and asked me

'’my friend, what are your services, what are you marketing?’'

I gave him a brief exposé about my clinic while handing him my handbill enthusiastically. He replied to me with a frown on his face

''Is this your business in this mall?'' and I replied.

''No sir.''

he immediately got furious and called the attention of all the security men, It was at this moment I understood what was going on and began to plead with the man but he was adamant, he asked one of the security men to take me and detain me with the police at the mall. The security man took me to the police camp which was behind the mall. Deep within me was a whirlwind of emotions I started crying a tearless cry and thinking to myself '’I should not be here.’'

The police asked me why I was detained and I told him my ordeal including how I initially disobeyed the security man who had told me to leave. The police explained that the person I spoke to in the car was the chairman of the mall and that it wouldn’t have been a case if he didn’t catch me, the chairman intended to teach me a lesson which was why he didn’t let me go.

He then urged me to call someone to bail me out of the situation and I, who had not been thinking about anything but myself, called my boss who encouraged me to beg the police and do everything to not let the situation escalate. After an hour, when the sun was almost in bed, two men who claimed to be my father and relative came and pleaded with the assistant chairman on my behalf to release me and he did. Already exhausted from the constant pleading and crocodile tears I was relieved and followed the men to where my boss had parked in secrecy.

I got into her car and she drove me home, laughing at my experience, and telling me how I shouldn’t have gone to the mall, I should have left when I was warned and that the chairman had no right to keep me there either.

If you made it to the end, Thank you for reading. To encourage me, please leave good or bad comments under this story 💕😊
